The no nonsense centre-back was out of contact at the end of the season, but after talks he has decided to remain at the Brandywell.

Although there was interest from across the water McBride, admitted that re-signing for the Candystripes was his preferred option by a long distance.

“I never wanted to go anywhere, as Derry is a great club to play for, so I’m obviously happy everything is sorted,” stated McBride.

“Two year’s is a good deal, because I want to stay at the club for as long as possible.”

The impressive stopper grew up in the shadow of the Brandywell but notwithstanding his committal to two more years at City, he hasn’t ruled out a move abroad in future.

“There is a lot of interest at Derry City matches and a lot of scouts come to our matches, so if I just keep doing what I’m doing and take one game at a time then hopefully something might happen.”

The 23-year-old, who has been a revelation since breaking into the first team a few years ago, did concede that he laughed at the amount of rumours circulating about who he was or wasn’t joining.

“I heard all the usual Derry rumours, but to be honest my agent only told me about a few clubs across the water who wanted me to maybe come over on trial, but I never wanted to leave Derry,” he added.

“I think staying at Derry for at least another two years will probably boost my confidence and playing for my home town club is always great.”

Like City fans, McBride is hoping a replacement for the outgoing Declan Devine is announced sooner rather than later.

And he feels the squad is good enough to win silverware next season.

“Hopefully in the next two weeks things will be sorted in terms of a new manager,” stated McBride.

“I think the squad is good enough for us to do well next season, obviously the manager will want to make a few changes in the dressing room, by bringing players in and that will be boost our squad up.”

Another man who has pledged his future with the club is midfielder Raymond Foy.

The Donegal man has also signed a new two year deal with the Candystripes.
