Early season derby for Amateurs U11s

IT was great to see the sun shining with the new IFA U11s nine-a-side league starting at Dromore Leisure Centre with Dromore taking on Banbridge Rangers.

With so many of the players knowing each other quite well there was a cagey start, but the game settled down with Matthew Magill fed through for the first goal in his new position as striker.

The midfield of Mathew Briggs, Euan Sellwood, Philip Johnson and Adam Jennings were beginning to combine well and Adam took the next two goals well. Just before the half time whistle Euan added another goal, to put Dromore in control.

The defence of Joel Nixon, Nathan Thompson and Morgan Houston, with Josh Jennings in goal stood firm.

The second half sprung Banbridge Rangers into life and they tried very hard, closing down the space and making better passes.

Dromore were not finished yet with further goals from Morgan, Matthew Briggs, Matthew Magill (with a cheeky back heel), Euan and Adam (who completed his hat-trick).

The coaches were very pleased with the team performance, particularly with the way they passed and moved.

This result will be a real confidence boast for the boys as they start in this new league.

Up next Saturday is St Mary’s. A big thank-you for all the support from parents and friends.
