East Antrim clubs well represented in Limerick

The quartet of Pat McShane (Larne), Andrew Doyle (Ballyclare Comrades), Aaron Harmon (Carrick Rangers) and Correy Davidson (Carrick Rangers) have been included as part of Harry McConkey’s 20-man panel.

New Carrick boss Gary Haveron, originally named on McConkey’s panel, pulled out of the squad last week with his new role and work commitments the primary reasons behind his decision. Haveron, who remains on the books as a player at Taylor’s Avenue, has been hampered by injury since the start of the campaign and has had limited game time.

The three-day amateur competition also features Isle of Man, hosts Republic of Ireland and Scotland.

On day one, Northern Ireland face Isle of Man before taking on the Republic on Friday and the Scots on the final day.

At 38 years of age, Larne full-back Pat McShane is the oldest player in the squad, just ahead of former Carrick stopper Robert Robinson.

With four Irish League winners’ medals in his locker, McShane brings a wealth of experience to the table and could help provide a steadying influence in the Northern Ireland rearguard.

Also named among the defenders is Ballyclare skipper Andrew Doyle.

The robust centre-back, from Newtownabbey, is highly thought of at Dixon Park. He’s no-nonsense, determined and tough-tackling and could have a bright Irish League future ahead of him.

Hard-working Aaron Harmon really has come on leaps and bounds since Stephen Small plucked him from the Amateur League and took him to Carrick a few years back. Interestingly, McConkey has named Harmon among his defenders but, after a spell playing at right-midfield, he has been operating well in central midfield for Rangers.

Last, but by no means least, is Correy Davidson.

The Dubliner came to Carrick on loan from Bohemians last season and his since made his move permanent.

He’s a fantastic winger with bags of potential who loves nothing more than to take defenders on and could prove to be real assest for the Northern Ireland team.
