The 30-year-old, who joined the Lurgan Blues from Coleraine a few weeks ago, was offered the chance to play in the States and he goes with Glenavon manager Gary Hamilton’s blessing.

“Eoin got a massive contract offer and he could not turn it down. I was aware this might happen when we talked to him about coming here,” said Hamilton.

“He will be away for eight weeks, but I am not concerned about him missing out pre-season because he will come back fit having playing competitive matches.”

Eoin met his new Glenavon colleagues for the first time on Saturday as the squad got together for their first training session.

“I am very impressed by the set-up at Mourneview, it is first class,” said Eoin. “Sometimes it can be a bit awkward at a new club early on, but I was made feel welcome right from the start and in a way it’s a pity I’m going to miss Europe and the pre-season.

“I played in Australia a few years ago but this is my first time in America. It was a fantastic offer and financially I could not turn it down. It will be a great experience for me. There are eight teams with a game each week and then on to quarter-finals, semis and a final if all goes well. I’ll miss the first league game but I’ll be coming back in good shape.”

Meanwhile Glenavon boss Hamilton was busy this week talking to three players as he bids to add to his squad. “We are keen to add at least one more to the squad but we are competing with other clubs so we will have to wait and see what happens.”

The William Walker Supporters Club AGM will be held in the clubrooms on Friday, June 27 at 8.00pm.
