The January signing from Linfield has played three games in just over a week after being left on the sidelines at Windsor Park.

“I’ve been more than happy with how I’ve got on and I’ve been made very welcome which has been very pleasing,” Ervin told Times Sport.

“The good thing about it is that it was straight into the thick of the action rather than having to wait two or three weeks before getting a game.

“It was strange walking into a dressing room with different faces to the ones I’ve been used to for nine-and-a-half years - it’s going to be strange but the boys have been excellent to me.

“It’s good to get straight in and playing football and that’s what I’m here to do.

“Things were very frustrating for me at Linfield - it got to the stage where I needed to be playing regular football.

“I’m glad Glenn is able to give me that chance but I know I need to perform to stay in the team. I know I’m going to be challenged with the squad we have here.”

Ervin felt that United were unfortunate not to emerge from Saturday’s defeat by Linfield with a more positive outcome.

“We didn’t let Linfield get into a rhythm in the first half and then we got the goal to put us ahead at the break and I thought it was well-deserved.

“If we had kept 11 men on the pitch I think we would have got something out of it.

“Even when we went down to 10 men I thought we battled hard but when you;re playing Linfield with 11 men it’s always hard, never mind being down to 10 and it was frustarting from that point of view.

“Hopefully we can build upon Saturday’s performance and kick on.”

Ervin has already notched his first goal for his new club in the midweek win at Dungannon.

“I don’t score too many and to be honest I’m still not sure what I was doing that far up the pitch but I’ll take it!” laughs Jim
