Ewarts too strong for Junior Park

BALLYMENA Junior Park made the journey last Saturday to play Ewarts, however they found the going tough and returned home with nothing to show for their efforts after a 93-52 defeat.

Jordan Millar, Sammy Small, Dessie Shaw and John Greer were still very much in their game after 9 ends against R McLean on rink 1 as they only trailed by 2 shots.

Unfortunately for the Ballymena rink they could only score on 4 more ends with the home rink going on to win by 22 shots to 11.

Tommy Glass, Joe McKernan, Jimmy Shields and Billy Scullion had a tough day at the office on rink 2 against J Beatty.

They conceded 10 shots over the first 3 ends and even though the Braid men lifted a count of 5 shots and a single on the next 2 ends it was mostly one way traffic from then as the home rink won 12 of the next 16 ends to record an emphatic 30-11 victory.

Jimmy Alexander, Roy Kernohan, Robert Mark and Davy Balmer had a close game on rink 3 with C Farlow.

Scores were level after 9 ends and there was still nothing to separate the two rinks after 13 ends with the scores tied at 14-14. The Ewarts rink then won the next 4 ends to open up a 7 shot lead and even though the Braid men won the final ends they could only score a total of 5 shots which left the final score 21-19 in favour of the home rink.

Tommy Glass, Alan McCombe, Liam Lyness and Harold Smyth held a 1 shot lead after 4 ends against T Holland on rink 4, however the Ballymena men lost 4 of the next 5 ends to trail by 11 shots to 4.

This proved to be decisive in the context of the game and even though the Braid rink got to within 4 shots of their opponents they eventually had to concede defeat by 20 shots 16.

This week Ballymena Junior Park entertain Cavehill.
