Excellent midweek performance

TOWN Juniors U15s travelled to Lower Maze in a midweek game seeking to put right their poor opening to season and produce a good display - and they didn’t disappoint.

Right from the outset the Juniors’ attitude and commitment was obvious

- something they lacked in their 4-1 defeat to Bloomfield in their season opener.

With Daire McCluskey superbly marshalling his defence, and Copes pulling the strings in midfield the locals were creating good chances but the opening goal eluded them.

This early pressure was soon to pay off after some great passing and movement, Fitzpatrick gave the Juniors a deserved lead with a cool finish.

Town now dominated and soon added a second as Chris Burns finished well with a superb lob.

With a 2-0 lead at the interval and their defence dominant, confidence was now high and from the restart the locals pressed for a third and should have sealed the victory sooner but had to wait until 20 minutes from time to secure all three points, again after some superb passing and movement, sub Nathan Weir, with his first touch scored from 20 yards.

The game was over as a contest and despite Lower Maze’s attempts to retrieve something from the game, the Juniors held on to claim the points.

This was an excellent performance with every individual playing their part in a display packed with commitment, determination and skill, but special mention must go to Daire McCluskey and Joel Copes who were outstanding throughout.
