EXCLUSIVE: Donald quits Islandmagee for Wellington Rec

Stephen Donald has quit as boss of Islandmagee FC and has been appointed as the new manager of Wellington Rec.

A well-known figure in the Northern Amateur League, Donald led the Wilbourne Park outfit to the Division 1A title and a Clarence Cup win during his eight-year reign at the club.

He told the Times he thought ‘long and hard’ about his decision to make the move to Brookvale Park before agreeing to take the hot-seat at the Division 1B side on Monday evening.

Donald confirmed that key Island players Michael Moore, Andy Waide, Gary Workman and Chris Morton will be joining him at his new club.

He said: “Things had gone stale for me at Islandmagee and I wanted a new challenge.”

The Carrick man steered Islandmagee to eighth spot in the Premier League this year, and takes over a Welly Rec side who finished eleventh in 1B.
