I love football. I’ve been playing the game since I was no age, I work as a Grassroots Development Officer with the Irish Football Association and having been out injured a lot over the past couple of seasons and desperately missing playing regularly, I’m now loving being back in the game. But despite all that, it’s still surprising how one bad result can ruin your whole weekend!

I am of course referring to our lacklustre 2-1 reverse to Loughgall last weekend. A combination of not being able to put away our chances and again, disappointingly, failing to find that elusive clean sheet meant that we were unable to put a vital three points on the board at the top of the table.

You prepare all week for the game at the weekend. We trained in blizzard-like conditions on Tuesday evening and then I’m sure, like myself, a lot of the players would’ve had to amend some Valentines Day plans on Friday because of the game the next day.

Don’t worry, I did take the Mrs out for a meal on Saturday night, but I wasn’t in the best of moods! And I’m sure everyone else was in a similar mood because of the outcome of the game.

The only way to get the Loughgall result out of the system is to go out this weekend and put things right against Limavady.

Despite a comfortable 5-0 win at the Showgrounds earlier in the season we’ll be taking nothing for granted as we now know that we’ll probably need to win every remaining game if we want to secure promotion this season. Hopefully the Amber Army will get behind us again and we can get a result that makes the weekend that whole much more enjoyable!

Lastly, I’d like to congratulate club stalwart Glenn Taggart on two fronts. Firstly, on the announcement of his engagement to girlfriend Nikki; we wish you both every happiness together in the future. And also on his selection in the Carrick Rangers’ Greatest Ever XI. Taggs is a model professional and its great recognition of his time and dedication over the numerous year he’s been at Taylor’s Avenue. Well deserved!
