The Drogheda striker signed an 18 month deal with the Lurgan Blues last week but has to wait until the new year before starting what he declares is “a new chapter in his football life.”

The 35-year-old, who trained with the team on Wednesday night, is looking forward to playing in a team that likes going forward.

“Going by the training Glenavon have a lot of attack minded players here so I’m hoping to add to that,” said Declan.

“I’ve known the boss from when I played against him in the Setanta competition and I know a few of the lads like Eddie McCallion, Ciaran Martyn and Conor Dillon.

“Gary tried to sign me in August and to be honest I had throught about playing in the Irish League a couple of years ago so it has eventually come around.”

Declan is a proven goalscorer and confident he can help Glenavon push up the table. “I’ve scored goals no matter where I have played so I don’t feel any extra pressure coming to the Irish League. If anything, I put pressure on myself to do well.

“It’s great to be involved in a different set-up with different grounds and teams. I have won everything that can be won in the League of Ireland, but I’m not finished yet.

“For those looking at my age - that does not matter to me. I was in a team with 20-year-olds last season and still managed to score 15 goals in about 20 games. I’ve still got the hunger and can’t wait to get started.”
