Feeney fires Town U15s to a narrow victory at Cheney

The locals found it difficult to get into any rythmn, with only Keelan Quigley and Henry Doogan providing any positives in the early stages.

They did create a few decent efforts - firstly a Charles Cully shot that fizzed over the bar and a Shea Winters strike that never really worried the Moira keeper.

Cameron Sands began to take a foothold of the game and Town began to pepper the Moria rearguard but were unable to find a goal.

Keelan Quigley blasted a free-kick wide towards the end of the half and Henry Doogan made a lung bursting run into the box but again his effort rolled into the keeper’s arms.

The introduction of Jamie Feeney 10 minutes before the end of the half had a real positive impact on the Town as he led the line brilliantly and almost scored with his first touch after Shea Winters played him in but his effort struck a post.

Feeney eventually got his deserved goal a minute before the break when Keelan Quigley and Shea Winters combined to put the striker in and he slipped the ball under the keeper to make it 1-0 at half-time.

Moira never really created anything of note throughout the match but the locals were unable to put the game to bed in the second period. The visitors forced a few corners and free-kicks that keeper Aaron Devlin dealt with.

At the other end, Ben Johnston, Cashel Haughey and Tom Mehaffey kept the pressure on Moira.

Eoin Scullion put in a decent shift in midfield and Feargal Vaughan marshalled his defence with ease throughout the second half with help from Michael Kelly.

Banbridge eventually saw out the remainder of the game and it was a match the boys really needed under their belt as they prepare to face Ardstraw in the cup next weekend.
