Ferguson aiming for new year cheer at Milltown

Victory over Coleraine in the Boxing Day ‘derby’ was the Sky Blues’ third straight win in all competitions and Ferguson is hopeful they can extend that run when they travel to Warrenpoint Town on New Year’s Day (3pm).

“Beating Coleraine gives us a bit of momentum going into the game at Warrenpoint,” said Ferguson, who will have defender Johnny Taylor available after suspension.

“We should have won down there the last time.

“We have nothing to fear and we can go into the game with confidence but we won’t go there with arrogance.

“Warrenpoint are very hard to beat at home - you only have to look at home Portadown came unstuck a couple of weeks ago - and they work so hard so it won’t be easy.

“By last New Year’s Day we had 30 points so if we can win on Thursday, we’ll go past that figure.

“With the injuries we’ve had and the run of results recently, that isn’t a bad return of points but we want to get better and push on towards that top six spot,” added Ferguson

Just 48 hours after the Warrenpoint game, United entertain Glenavon in their first home match of 2015 on Saturday (3pm), when Gary McCutcheon will be eligible to play following his return from Crusaders.
