Ferguson loving life at Toon Army

“Everything’s going very well for me at the minute. I was surprised that I’ve got so many chances with the first team this season but there are so many injuries at the club, so I guess I’m a bit lucky to be getting the chance.

“Before I came across to Newcastle if someone had of told me I would be making appearances in the Premier League I wouldn’t have believed them. It’s amazing how quickly it’s all happened.

“I thought I did okay on Saturday. It was obviously not a good result for us but I just tried my best and I want to keep taking my chances when they come along.”

The 19-year-old, who started his career as a left-winger, showed some silky skills after the half-time break when he skipped away from Mark Wilson, before nut-megging Ryan Shawcross, but his right footed effort was well kept out by Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic.

“I went on a run and it just kept opening up for me. I probably should have passed to be honest but I just felt I had to shoot.

“I knew from the start of the game that there was a good chance I would be coming on because Jose (Enrique) wasn’t at his best and was having problems with his hamstring. He didn’t train much before the game and his leg just didn’t hold up for him.”
