Ferguson wants to take points off ‘Point!

Back-to-back wins over Ballinamallard and Coleraine have brought the Sky Blues to within a point of the Bannsiders and Ferguson wants his players to complete the season by finishing top of the bottom half of the Danske Bank Premiership.

Victory over Warrenpoint Town at the Showgrounds tonight Tuesday, 7.45pm) could lift United ahead of their rivals but Ferguson is wary of the threat posed by the border side.

“I don’t expect anything in this league - you have to work hard for everything you get,” said Ferguson.

“We’re at home and we will probably be favourites to win the game but if we don’t do the right things at the right time and don’t work hard, we won’t win the game so, first and foremost, that’s what we’ve got to do.

“If the players do what they’re asked to do, I’ve no doubt we can get the three points but if they don’t, we’ll end up with egg on our faces.

“The target was to pick up 15 points from our five games after the split - that hasn’t changed an it’s still possible after Saturday.

“If we can keep it going and finish ahead of Coleraine, that will have been one of the targets that we set for these five games achieved and we’ll try to build on it next season.”

On Saturday, United play their final away fixture at Institute (3pm).
