Fine win for Academy Under 11’s in Cup

COLERAINE FC ACADEMY U9 1 – 0 BERTIES LITTLE ANTS

It was a windy Ballysally that greeted Coleraine Academy 2004’s on Saturday. It was another entertaining game with Bertie’s Little Ants and some great football played by both teams with the Academy running out 1-0 winners.

It still took two good saves from Mr reliable Jake Speers to leave the scores 0-0 at halftime.

Reece Watton and Oliver Henry were introduced at half time and the Academy pushed forward at every opportunity.

The Academy produced some great passing moves and it was from one involving Oliver to Reece wide left where his superb cross was met first time by Rafferty to put the Academy in front.

This was a show of great passing football from the Academy who gave their best performance of season with every single player playing as they have been taught putting a big smile on the hard working coaches.

COLERAINE FC OLYMPIC U9 1 – 3 BERTIE PEACOCK YOUTHS

Coleraine Olympic and Bertie Peacock Youths produced a fantastic match in front of a large crowd in Ballysally on Saturday morning.

Despite this being a league decider, both sets of boys showed no sign of nerves in an evenly contest.

Coleraine almost took the lead early on when Cameron Black crashed a long range effort off the crossbar, Cameron was not to be denied however when he gave Coleraine the lead with a fine strike.

Both sides continued to attack but it was Bertie’s who got the equaliser just before half time. Despite huge pressure from Bertie’s, Coleraine continued to play the ball out from the back. Bertie’s pressure finally paid off five minutes from the end when they took the lead with another cracking goal from their central midfielder. Coleraine now went for broke and conceded a third with the last kick of the game.

Under 10 Olympic Team

COLERAINE FC OLYMPIC U10 5 – 0 CARNINY YOUTHS

Two emergency replacements due to illness did not disrupt the Olympic team.

Playing up the slope and into the wind in the second half the boys controlled things more effectively. Sublime finishes from Jake Wallace and Joshua Campbell counted along with goals from Adam Scott, Corie Leckie, Adam McClure and Lennon McKeeman. Brennan Whiteside was tenacious in midfield and never allowed Carniny to settle on the ball.

Stand-in goalie Owen MacKenzie kept the clean sheet and got plenty of exercise chasing wind-assisted balls.

U11 Academy Team

Coleraine Academy U11 0-1 Magherafelt Galaxy

The U11 Academy team were knocked out of the Cup in this very uninspiring game. The Coleraine team did start strongly and put the Magherafelt defence under pressure from the kick off, but with no end result.

COLERAINE FC OLYMPIC U11 2 – 0 INSTITUTE

This quarter-final cup game proved to be an enjoyable encounter between two teams who both had the will to win.

Half way through the second half Campbell McFaull put the home side in front when he headed low into the Institute net from a corner on the right. Five minutes later Jude Twigg put the result beyond doubt when from the edge of the box he drove a strong shot past the Institute keeper low into the net.

While the pace of the game dropped slightly in the last few minutes this was a match in which both sides tried to play constructive football and which was interesting right to the final whistle.
