Finvoy’s 12-goal thriller

Games in the O’Gorman Cup occupied the Intermediate Teams on Saturday and this resulted in Newtowne beating Rasharkin United by the odd goal in three, Brantwood with two extra-time goals beat Dunloy, Raceview beat Kilbride Swifts 2 nil, Desertmartin beat FC Ballynure by the odd goal in five, and Clough travelled to Ballynure Old Boys and won by the odd goal in five.

There were also games played in the Crawford which is being competed for by all the Intermediate and Junior Clubs. Moyola Park Olympic with an away win at Chimney Corner Res now travel to Rasharkin United in the quarter final. Ballyclare Comrades Res with their Quarter Final win over Antrim Rovers have reached the Semi-final where they will be away to either Clough Rangers Athletic or Brantwood.

In the 3rd Round of the Canada trophy 3rd Ballyclare Old Boys beat Encore FC four two and there was a similar scoreline in the other tie played when Tobermore Utd res beat Woodlands.

BRANTWOOD 4 DUNLOY 2 (aet)

It took extra time to decide this tie in which Dunloy took the lead on the 25th minute through a well taken goal scored by Paudie Shivers. Brantwood equalised on the 30th minute after Jordan Kernoghan scored and then went in front when Seamus McClenaghan scored on the 56th minute.

Dunloy never gave up the chase getting back level after John John McFerran converted a penalty on the 82nd minute.

This saw extra time played with the result being decided in the first five minutes of the first period. Bjorn Heggerson scored on the 92nd minute and an own goal on the 93rd minute win the game for Brantwood.

ROUND TWO

Newtowne started off well and took the lead after Gary Moore scored on the 15th minute and after this had a couple of good chances to extend their lead.

The second Newtowne goal followed on the 31st minute when Marty Ferris scored with a blistering 35 yard shot giving Newtowne a two goal cushion at half-time.

Rasharkin were early on the attack in the second half forcing Newtowne to concede an own goal on the 60th minute.

After this Rasharkin pushed forward at every opportunity and were unfortunate not to get the goal that would have taken the tie into extra time. Referee Mr. Mervyn McAleese

This game was won by a very late goal when extra time was on the cards. Ballynure took the lead after Terry Lyness scored on the 20th minute but Clough came back to cancel this out when Ricky Reid scored on the 28th minute.

Half-time saw the teams still level then on the 60th minute David Nicholl scored putting Clough in front.

This goal still separated the teams until Terry Lyness popped up with his second goal in the game on the 87th minute.

Extra time was on the horizon when in stoppage time Nigel Boyd scored the winning goal for Clough. Referee. Mr. Raymond Bigger

Glebe took the lead after Gareth Henry scored on the 10th minute and held this until half-time. Glebe then doubled their lead on the 50th minute with a goal scored by Warren Morrison.

Ballynure pulled a goal back after Ryan Davey scored on the 55th minute but Glebe with a brace of goals scored by Ian Wilson on the 82nd and 86th minutes secured the win. Referee Mr. Gary Crawford

DIVISION TWO

CARNLOUGH SWIFTS 4 GRANGE RANGERS II 0

Carnlough took the lead after Ruaidhrai Lee chipped the ball over the Grange keeper into the net on the 5th minute and then on the 20th minute he scored his second goal with a first time shot.

Half-time was almost reached when a shot from Ruaidhrai Lee came off the crossbar to Brendan McDermott following up who headed it into the Grange net on the 40th minute.

The second half saw Grange go all-out to get a goal but Carnlough were content to defend their three goal lead which then became four when Brendan McDermott scored his second goal on the 85th minute. Referee Mr. Adrian Dodds

WAKEHURST STROLLERS 6 FINVOY 6

What a game with the team’s sharing twelve goals and a point each at the end of ninety minutes.

Paul Anderson put the Strollers in front on the 15th minute but this was cancelled out with Gary Trafford scoring for Finvoy. Darren Rodgers scored for the Strollers on the 30th minute this being followed by Gary Trafford scoring his second goal for Finvoy. Simon McCartney restored the Strollers lead but goals from Adam Harkness 2 and Robert Beckett saw Finvoy go two goals clear. Stuart McKinney pulled a goal back before Gareth Cairns restored Finvoy two goal lead. As time was running down Stuart McKinney converted a penalty and Ian McCracken scored the equaliser for the Strollers. Referee Mr. Martin Bellew

DIVISION THREE

FC BALLYNURE YM 1 CARNMONEY FC 2

Ballynure had the best of the opening attacking play and went onto take the lead after Bobby McGookin scored on the 24th minute giving them the lead at half-time.

Carnmoney got back on level terms after Ricky Thompson scored on the 55th minute setting the game for a good finish.

Both teams had chances to score before the all important third goal was score by Ricky Thompson giving Carnmoney the three points at the end. Referee Mr. Brian Leitch
