First Ahoghill into churches' Glass final

FIRST Ahoghill clinched a place in the final of the Churches Section of the Glass Cup with a thrilling win at Second Broughshane.

In the first half the home side got off to a very poor start as Sam Montgomery’s four lost heavily to Graham Maybin’s four, 3–19.

However on the other mat the home side recovered some of the deficit as James Turtle led his four to a 11–4 win over William Morrison’s rink

In the second series of games the home side were in the ascendancy as Colin Turtle hauled back another three shots with a 13–10 defeat of Andy Morrison’s four.

On the other mat it looked as the home side might pull the game from the fire as Maurice Montgomery’s four were in charge against David Morrison’s four and the game looked to be heading for an extra end until David scored the winning shots with his last bowl of the evening to give his side a place in the section final although he lost by 11–4.

A date an venue for the section final ha yet to be decided.

The District section final, featuring Michelin and Portglenone Community, will be played at the Golf Club this Wednesday March 3.
