First football fun day is held

On a bright and sunny morning last Sunday, a very successful Football Fun Day event took place at Maghaberry Sports Grounds.

In this the first ever football venture organised in the village for children from P1-P7 around 30 children, competed in four very competitive football matches.

Supported by parents and friends the children not only gave 100% commitment, but produced some amazing talent and each were given an engraved Maghaberry 2014 medal as a keepsake.

Star players for each of the four teams were, William Burgess, Matthew Robinson, Ben Topping and Luke McKenzie, they each received a beautiful engraved trophy.

The penalty shoot out competition was won by Luke McKenzie, Joel Ferguson, Kyle Cambton, Matthew Robinson and Alex Topping they each received a new football. Also winning a new football each were Jake Agnew, Jay McConnell, Jacob Kachel, Alex Topping and Luke Mckenzie who all claimed top prize in the cross bar challenge event.

Organisers Andrew McConnell, Mark Ogilby, Johnny Houston and Mark Smith with delighted with the turnout and thanked the parents and children for their enthusiasm and support.

Thanks were also recorded to Maghaberry Community Centre for the use of their grounds, and a special thanks to Darren Maginnes from the Golden Cod fish and chip shop on the Glenavy Road for his sponsorship.
