First league win for Larne

At the eighth attempt, Larne finally recorded their first league win of the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Limavady - despite having to play for 50 minutes with only 10 men.

“It was a massive result especially with other results,” said boss Graham McConnell. “The relief among the players and the bench was obvious. The players gave us everything we had asked of them, and I would like to thank local man Hugh Russell who spoke to the players on mental skills development and I think it has had a positive impact.”

Larne went in front after 20 minutes when Gary Workman raced to the byeline and crossed for Paul Maguire to fire home.

The Reds then lost the lively Dessie Donnelly to a second yellow five minutes before the break.

The home defence were continually tested after the break but they stood firm and seven minutes from time they added a second. Maguire returned the favour this time, chasing down a loose ball and cutting it back for Workman to hammer it into the net.
