Unfazed by the fact that Cookstown Youth were taking on the combined resources of a complete county, Cookstown Youth (a mixture of their Youth and Colts team and boys all from the Cookstown area), embraced the challenge and played four matches against County Wexford.

These were marvellous matches, played at a high standard and a credit to youth football. As if the standard of football wasn’t enough, the warm spring sun added to the atmosphere of a large crowd of spectators, who travelled to watch the matches.

There were many highlights from Cookstown Youths play, including passing, passion and pressure, that ensured that Cookstown Youth remained undefeated for the days play.

Credit should made of the mercurial Ferguson who curled a right footed shot into the County Wexford goal, off the far post, leaving with goalkeeper sprawling.

Also the strong Se O’Hare who muscled pass the County Wexford defence and coolly slot the ball into the goal, past the advancing
goalkeeper.

Cookstown Youth squad: Jordan, Monaghan, Sh O’Hare, Jeffers, McCallion, Devlin, Ruddell, Donnelly, Murphy, Hamilton, Forbes, Ferguson, Purvis, McCann, Se O’Hare.
