FOOTBALL: Glentoran Legends to take on Portstewart ‘oul hands’ for Marie Curie

MOFFATT, Woodrow, Taylor, Forgrave, Vauls and Quinn - names synonmous with Portstewart Football Club...and they’ll be pulling the boots back on this weekend for a charity game against a Glentoran Legends side.

The game, organised by former Portstewart manager Frankie Moffatt and current gaffer Gary Taylor will be played this Sunday at Seahaven.

The Glentoran Legends XI were formed four years ago and in that time they’ve played around 40 games.

Over that time they’ve raised in the region of £40,000 for charity.

Made up of former players stretching back to the 70’s, the team sheet on Sunday will include Rab McCreery, Johnny Jamison, Alex Robson, Billy Caskey, Gary Blackledge, Barney Bowers, Raymond Morrison, Tommy Leeman, Tom McCleland and Jim Cleary.

Other familiar names in the ranks are Andy Mathieson, Gary Hillis, Stephen Douglas, John Devine, Gary Smyth, Mark Glendinning and Justin McBride.

Speaking to Times Sport on Monday, Gary Taylor wasn’t giving too much information about the Portstewart team. He told: “ It’s an over 40’s game, but we are hoping to pull in a few boys that are just over the 40 mark to give us a bit of pace,” joked Gary.

“We’re still trying to get in touch with players at the minute, but myself and Aaron [Forgrave] will be playing, Daid Moffat, Kenny Woodrow, Alistair McGarvey, Steven Quinn, Alan Vauls and Richard Standfield.

“It’s a bit of fun for a good cause if nothing else,” told Gary.”

The game has a 2pm kick off this Sunday, August 26.

Marie Curie Cancer Care will spend over £5m caring for patients and supporting families in Northern Ireland this year.
