Football: Island send Nortel out of Border Cup

Two goals from Billy Waide and one from brother Andy Waide secured Islandmagee’s progress to the semi-final of the Amateur League’s Border Regiment Cup with a 3-0 win over Nortel at Wilbourne Park.

Nortel had a penalty shout waved away in the opening minute when Darren Doherty went down inside the box and the home side went right down the other end, taking the lead when Ian McGrath set up Billy Waide for a neat back-post finish.

The visitors didn’t learn their lesson and were again caught out at the back post, as the Islanders doubled their advantage; McGrath again the provider, this time for Andy Waide.

Evan Forsythe had a header scrambled off the line, while Kyle Agnew had an effort disallowed for offside. And Kirk’s men kept pressing but Wilkinson and Agnew were denied by the keeper, while Andrew Doyle smacked one off the base of the post.

But it was the Islanders who added the icing on the cake when substitute Gibb set up Billy Waide for his second and his team’s third in stoppage time.

Islandmagee: Steele, Craig, Cowie, Moore, Smyth - B. Waide, Moffatt, Scott, McGrath - Hilditch, A. Waide. Subs: Kirby, Gibb, McKnight.
