FOOTBALL: Kids shine in terrible weather as NI international Shane Ferguson makes apperanace

Due to adverse weather conditions the venue had to be switched from Lisneal College to the Vale Centre.

This caused the tournament organisers quite a few logistics problems with fewer pitches but the early difficulties were sorted and Irish Premiership club Ballymena United were victorious in the under-9 category on Saturday.

Thankfully the weather was a lot better on Sunday and a large attendance enjoyed a festival of football.

Buster from ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ also made an appearance to the delight of many of the kids who got selfies and autographs.

The cup produced a very high standard of football with Roe Valley remaining the trophy beating the ever impressive Bertie Peacocks.

The plate was won by Strabane beating Championship side Limavady United in a penalty shoot out. Kilmac won the globe with Eglinton Eagles winning the Shield.

The tournament organisers would like to thank all the kids and coaches for their support and sponsors Tile and Floor Studio from Newbuildings.

Northern Ireland international Shane Ferguson, who is fresh from Euro 2016, also made a special guest appearance. The money raised will go towards setting up an autism and learning disabilities league for kids. They hope to purchase kits and organise coaching sessions and a mini league. Donations will be also made to local autism groups.
