Football: Killymoon Rangers lose out in Bob Radcliffe Cup

St Marys started the match on the front foot taking the game to Killymoon, using the driving wind and rain to their advantage.

The first chance of the match fell to St Marys, the right back heading over from a corner on 15 minutes. They also had a shot wide, and Gareth McGaw was alert to clear the danger.

Killymoon’s first real effort was a cross come shot from James Dunn which was saved on the line. St Marys then replied with a couple of chances from outside the box going wide and over. Declan Campbell had a shot blocked in the box before the danger was cleared.

In the final 20 minutes of the half Killymoon were the better team. Killymoon had a free kick outside the box cleared, St Marys broke but the Killymoon defence got back to clear the danger.

James Dunn went close to giving Killymoon the lead, having a shot saved after a good ball from Stuart Donaghy.

Roger Greer had a shot over the bar from the edge of the box, after being set up by captain Jason Ferry.

At the start of the second half Lee Hunter almost put James Dunn through on goal, but the St Mary’s defence, got a vital touch on the ball to thwart the danger.

The roles were then reversed, when James Dunn almost put Lee Hunter in only to be thwarted again.

Gareth McGaw and Robbie Allen were doing their best in the Killymoon defence to keep St Marys out, but the deadlock was broken on 70 minutes, by a back post header from a free kick.

Killymoon rang the changes to get back into the game, bringing on Ryan Ferry and David Millar, but fell further behind on 78 minutes.

Killymoon rallied in the final stages of the match, with Robbie Allen and Stuart Donaghy both shooting wide.
