Football: Killymoon Rangers secure win over Rathcoole

Killymoon got off to the worst possible start conceding in the second minute, when a shot from the edge of the box, nestled in the bottom corner off the net.

Warren Smith had Killymoon’s first effort of the game with a shot from the edge of the box, which went narrowly wide.

With their next attack Killymoon equalised, Ryan Smith scored with a great shot from the edge of the box to in the seventh minutes.

A short corner was played back to Robbie Allen who tried his luck with a shot that went wide.

Robbie then crossed the ball and Ryan Smith had a diving header deflected out for a corner.

Michael Donald was next to try his luck with a shot which the Rathcoole keeper saved.

In the 22nd minute a Rathcoole defender was dismissed by the referee, and Robbie Allen and Warren Smith were unable to convert chances to give Killymoon the lead.

Michael Donald curled a free kick wide from the edge of the box. Tempers flared and the referee took no mercy in issuing yellow cards to keep control.

Donald almost gave Killymoon the lead with a back heel which trickled agonisingly wide.

Killymoon started the second half on the front foot, Warren Smith, failed to get on the end of a James Dunn cross.

Rathcoole equalised in the 63rd minute, their number 11 getting in behind the Killymoon defence and beating Brown to score.

Killymoon were playing well, with Cameron Stewart fitting in well at centre half alongside captain Jason Ferry, while Lee Hunter and Ryan Smith worked hard in central midfield.

Stuart Donaghy came on for James Dunn while Gerard Moore came in for Lee Hunter.

The hard working Brian Mulligan had a great shot saved by the Rathcoole keeper.

W Smith had a shot wide from the edge of the box while Rathcoole hit a free kick straight to M Brown.

Mulligan had a great chance, when he chested the ball down in the box, but his shot went over the bar.

Killymoon took the lead in 85th minute, a ball into the box was headed back across goal by James Leslie and Gerard Moore scored a point blank header.

Brown was called on in the 91st minute, but Killymoon held out to book their place in R=ound 3 of the Intermediate cup.
