FOOTBALL: Larne 1 Lisburn Distillery 2

Larne fell to their second defeat in as many weeks as Lisburn Distillery came from behind to record a 2-1 win at Inver Park.

All of third-placed Larne’s five Championship 1 defeats have come by the same scoreline.

David McAlinden’s men couldn’t have asked for a better start, however, as Ciaran Murray latched on to Stuart King’s pass to lash in an unstoppable half-volley after five minutes.

Despite that early advantage, the visitors came into the game more and they levelled with a fine finish of their own as Stephen Doyle curled a 20-yard free-kick into the top corner beyond Ciaran Stitt 10 minutes before the break.

The Invermen started the second half brightly and kept the Whites pinned inside their half for long spells.

Murray had the best chance to help Larne re-take the lead but his curling effort from the edge of the box was well tipped over by Ryan McBride.

However, against the run of play Distillery netted the winner on 70 minutes as Sean Southam headed home Peter Sargent’s excellent left-wing cross.

The home side failed to test McBride after that as they saw all three points slip through their grasp.
