Football: Magherafelt Sky Blues U11s see off Glentoran after extra-time

Magherafelt Sky Blues played Glentoran in the NIBFA Cup U11 quarter final today in Lisburn and came away with a 2-1 win in extra-time.

The first half was an even contest with the Blues best work coming down the right hand side.

Olaf Wisniewski in the Blues goal made a couple of good saves before the Blues took the lead.

A Lee McMenemy corner fell at the feet of Michael McKay in the Glentoran box and McKay calmly fired the ball into the back of the net when under pressure from the Glentoran defence.

The second half started similar to the first with both teams having chances but Glentoran soon started to take control.

Man of the match Olaf Wisniewski in the Blues goal made three brilliant saves but finally Glentoran got the equalizer.

Again Wisniewski saved from the initial strike, got up quick and saved from the rebound but the Glentoran striker managed to sqeeze the ball in at the third attempt.

Glentoran were unable to break down the Blues defence a second time and found the Blues captain Lewis Francis in brilliant form again.

The Blues seemed to get a second wind in extra time and started to take the game to Glentoran again.

Their hard work and determination paid off with 3 minutes remaining when McKay grabbed his second.

An inch perfect pass from McAleese was controlled perfectly by McKay and with the Glentoran keeper closing him down he guided the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

Tiarnan Rocks opened the scoring for the Blues in a tightly contested opening few minutes which saw Coleraine equalise almost immediately.

The Blues got there noses in front again through the ever present Tom Quinn.

The Blues then began to take a little more control of the game and and Scott Bradley gave them a slender cushion.

Coleraine fought back again with another goal but the Blues had found there stride by this stage and another Bradley strike and a couple of wonder goals from Tom Quinn and James Cappell had them clear.

The tenacious Scott Bradley then secured his well deserved hat-trick.
