Football: Moyola Park U17 bring home league title against Dungiven

Moyola went into this game looking to extend their lead at the top of the league to seven points with closest rivals Coleraine U17 only able to gain six points from their remaining two fixtures.

The Castledawson team started the game in ominious form pinning Dungiven in their own half and passing the ball around superbly but the Dungiven defence stood firm and continued to thwart the impressive Moyola at the last with some dogged defending.

Moyola broke the Dungiven resolve in the sixth minute through Matthew Mulholland who turned his marker and fired home leaving the Dungiven keeper helpless after Sam White played him in.

The Mill Meadow lads pressed hard to double their advantage and thought they had through Mulholland who met a great David Bradley Corner with a firm header which left the Dungiven keeper standing only for the goal to be disallowed for an adjudged push in the box. Moyola then thought they had gained the second of the game through Bryn Jones who met a David Bradley corner with a powerful header which hit the bar and was cleared off the line.

Moyola finally got their second through Sam White who broke free in the Dungiven half and slotted the ball beyond the unrushing Dungiven keeper. Moyola took their two goal advantage into the second half.

The Castledawson team started the second half in the same vain as the first attacking with menace and causing Dungiven all sorts of problems at the back. Moyola got their third of the game through White who won the ball inside the Dungiven half and fired in an unstoppable effort.

Moyola continued to attack not letting up eventually winning a free kick outside the Dungiven area when substitute Nathan Evans was fouled. Bryn Jones stepped up and hit an amazing free kick which left the keeper flat footed hitting the under side of the bar and dropping into the net.

Moyola continued to push men forward winning a corner which Bradley sweetly curled into the net past the unaware keeper who realised to late what was happening for the second time this season.

This win secured the league title for Moyola in their first season together, with the knowledge that God had done something special as the team carry the versus Jeremiah 29:11 (For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope) on the neck of their shirts.

Moyola U12 Olympic had a very well deserved draw at Ballysally in wintery conditions. Moyola started well with strikes from Oran Maddan and Ryan Laverty going close but fell behind to a good Portrush move.

At the start of the second half Moyola went 2-0 down due to a defensive mistake.

However, the Castledawson team hit back with two good goals from Maddan and James Bryson. They were unlucky not to win only for Portrush goal keeper had a great game in goals.

This was a better performance from Olympic which give them more encouragement in future.
