FOOTBALL: Quinn adds O’Hare to his squad for new season

MARTY Quinn has snapped up former Coleraine keeper Davey O’Hare.

Davey left the Showgrounds at the end of the season after he wasn’t offered a new contract under new boss Oran Kearney.

O’Hare who clocked up almost 550 appearances for Coleraine during two spells, will join his old boss, Marty Quinn at Mourneview Park.

Speaking to Times Sport on Monday Davey admitted that he was disappointed at not being offered a new contract at the Showgrounds but added that he is looking forward to working with Marty again.

“To be honest I would have liked to have finished my playing career at Coleraine, and maybe gone in to coaching or managing. These days there is no sentiment in football and all things have to come to an end.

“I am looking forward to working with Marty. He brought me back to the Showgrounds, we had a good team and some great years - qualifying for Europe and getting to three Irish Cup Finals.

“Marty is a great man manager, and he always looks after his players, so I had no hesitation in joining up with him again.”

Davey will compete with Andy Coleman for the first team jersey, but he says he’ll give his best shot: “I felt at the end of the season that I was fit and able enough to carry on so I went out and looked for another club.

“I know Andy Coleman well, he’s a young keeper who has done very at Newry over the last few seasons, but I have been assured that I have been signed to compete for the first team jersey. I am too proud and have played too many games to accept second best and sit and watch, so I will be training hard and will be trying to make a positive impression,” added O’Hare.

And Marty is just as delighted to have Davey in his squad: “Davey is 39 but he’s still in good shape and I’m glad to have him on board.

“I know him well and he’ll be a great personality in the dressing room.

“Davey just isn’t coming to warm the bench - he’ll provide healthy competition for Andy Coleman.”

O’Hare is Marty’s nineth signing so far this season
