FOOTBALL: Rangers boss targets new signings

Carrick Rangers boss Gary Haveron says the process of identifying potential transfer targets has already begun.

Haveron knows he needs to bolster his squad to give the Taylor’s Avenue club the best possible chance of staying up. And the 34-year-old told the Carrick Times that nobody is safe - including him.

“We are most definitely hoping to bring players in. We need to strengthen. We keep making the same mistakes and it would be remiss of me to let it keep going any longer,” he revealed.

While he’s reasonably pleased with how his team have performed in the top flight, he’s not excactly cock-a-hoop with the persistent errors which have cost his team precious Premiership points.

“I’ve said it before: I have to question absolutely everything because ultimately I’m responsible for results at this football club. I have to look at every area and when we’re making the same mistakes, and if they continue to happen and I don’t do anything to change it - be that how I coach the boys or the personnel - then I’m putting myself in a bit of a noose.

“Ultimately, nobody can say they haven’t had a fair crack of the whip. Part of the thing [this year] was that I wanted to remain loyal to the players who got us promoted and I have done that, by and large. But we need to have players who can keep us at this level.

“We need to look at every option; nobody’s safe - including myself. Everybody is under scrutiny and everybody is under pressure to perform.

“Our displays haven’t been too bad but when we’re continually making the same mistakes then something has got to change. If it can’t be coached and if they have been told how to nullify errors or how to improve and it continues to happen, then we maybe just have to look at replacing players. It’s something I don’t particularly like doing but it’s also something I’m totally prepared to do in order to make sure Carrick stay in the Premier League.”

Haveron wasn’t prepared to identify his January targets, but added: “We’re already speaking to other clubs regarding players we’re keen to speak to. That process has started. We want to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. We’re being very proactive. We’re trying to get as many in as we feel we need.”
