FOOTBALL: Targets set for coming season

Coleraine Football Club’s pre-season preparations are well on the way, but they are not exclusive to the football team’s preparations.

Oran Kearney’s comments at the recent Business and Sponsor event, that the team will be setting new targets this season based on last season’s achievements, has inspired the club to do the same. Chairman Colin McKendry said: “The club’s desire to build on the community involvement programmes and partnerships, which were initiated last season, are key in building Coleraine Football Club into a successful and sustainable club.

“Initiatives like the Academy and Community football teams, soccer school, mini soccer, disabled supporters clubs have all helped in bringing sections of the wider community into the Showgrounds.

“Leading on from the Clubs community audit which was published last year in partnership with the IFA and the Sports Academy at Jordanstown, the club has been able to identify programmes which will be enablers for future projects. All of which will assist the club in its desire to be at the heart of the local community.”

Colin thanked the club’s community liaison group which involves all sections of the club and has been working hard to build relations and partnerships with various community, public and private groups, in order to help drive future community involvement and funding opportunities.

Colin and Oran Kearney both acknowledge that with this increased activity comes the need for more voluntary resource. Both men urged anyone interested in getting involved in a voluntary capacity with the club to please so.

Wether you are a qualified coach or just wish to assist in any way with any of the youth teams or soccer centres, lend any sort of assistance with administration or would be keen to assist with upcoming community projects please get involved no matter how much or little time you can commit. Anyone wishing to get involved should contact Dessie Brown, CFC Secretary via [email protected] or Andy Alcorn, CFC Community Liaison Officer, Academy Chairman via [email protected].
