FOOTBALL: The manager has shown a lot of faith in me: Lowry

STEPHEN Lowry has thanked Oran Kearney for the faith he has shown in him since taking over the reins at The Showgrounds.

Speaking after putting pen to paper on a new three-year contract last week the midfielder admitted he probably would have been away from the Bannsiders but for Kearney’s arrival in February.

The Limavady man cut a frustrated figure under previous boss David Platt.

But Kearney’s arrival not only sparked the team as a whole but also re-invigorated Lowry, so much so that he was one of the League’s form players over the last two months.

“I don’t know what would have happened if David (Platt) had still been in charge,” Lowry told Times Sport.

“I probably would have moved on as my opportunities were severely limited.

“Thankfully though it hasn’t come to that as I love Coleraine. Oran has come in and breathed new life into all of us especially myself.

“It means a lot when he offered my a three-year contract. It shows he has faith in me and believes in me as a player. Now I want to go out and repay that faith.

“I did speak with other clubs, but it was never my intention to leave. As I said I love being here and I believe there are exciting things ahead for us.

“I know we have lost a few good players but I know Oran is working hard to bring quality players in to replace them.

“Obviously I know Oran well from our time together at Limavady and I know that he is a winner.

“He has spelt out to us what he expects from us as players and what this club should be achieving.

“We have underachieved over the last couple of seasons by not making it into the top six, and that will be our main target next term to break back into the top half of the table.

“But we will also be pushing in the cups too and hopefully we bring some silverware back to the club again.”
