Football’s coming home to Taylor’s Avenue

Carrick Rangers supporters should put a big red circle around Tuesday, October 9 in the sporting-places-to-go section of their diaries – because that is the target date for the club’s return to the playing pitch at Taylor’s Avenue, revealed Michael Hughes.

And it would perhaps be a most appropriate one, too, given that the opposition for the League Cup match that night will be Crusaders, the club which gave them a temporary home at Seaview while the ground was being renovated.

“It’s not set in stone just yet, but that’s when we hope to get back to Taylor’s Avenue and everything seems to be on schedule for that. Certainly, the pitch is looking terrific right now and I’m very excited about getting back to where we belong,” said the manager.

“Obviously, there are still things to be done around the stadium and I can’t praise the supporters enough for the help they have been giving their club in getting the ground ready for a return. There are lots of jobs to be done as part of the necessary preparations and they have been very willing to undertake all these duties – painting and general tidying up, mainly around the dressing rooms, dugouts, walls and stands and so on.

“It’s all hands on deck to try and get the place ready and the more who come down to help out the better: all assistance will be greatly appreciated. But it’s been terrific to date and I would like to publicly express my appreciation for the tremendous job they are doing,” assured Hughes.
