Conor Downey fired home the winner during his first start since returning for injury in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Dundela, immediately showing just what his side had been missing during his two month absence.

And his manager was understandably delighted to have the forward at his disposal once again.

“Conor gives us something up there that we badly need,” said Watson.

“He’s naturally fit so came back in well and a lot of his game is about energy but he has improved as a player too.

“He has got a real taste for goals this season and the last few weeks, we have struggled up top without him.

“He has been consistently scoring this season and it’s a huge plus to have him back in the team. Our players all appreciate the work he does up front and what he adds to the team.”

Meanwhile, winger Adam Pedlow made his first league start of the season during Saturday’s victory at Dundela.

The Donacloney man has had a tough time with injuries but made another step on his road to full recovery, taking to the starting the line-up.

“Adam has been showing well in training and he deserved his chance,” said Watson. “After the previous match, I had to ring the changes and Adam was one of the guys who came in and he did well.

“There is still more to come from him but he picked up a slight knock again.

“It was a bad tackle but it’s nothing serious and he will be fine after a few days’ rest.”
