Four games for club’s U8s in Newry

On Saturday past the U8’s played four games in Newry in the IFA Development Programme.

Overall it was again a good day at the office for the U8’s coming away with three wins and one defeat.

Alex McKee and Adam Trimble continued in their rich goal scoring form with the boys getting five and four goals respectively in a commanding performance against Damolly.

Alex and Adam were clinical in front of goal putting away any chances that came their way. Reuben Toal and James Walsh were in total control in defence allowing Rathfriland to keep another clean sheet. Jack Maginn worked tirelessly in midfield to ensure Rathfriland came out on top.

In the second game Rathfriland came up against a very strong Tullyvalley side. Tullyvalley took an early lead but a great goal from Connor McElroy put Rathfriland level at the break. Tullyvalley then started to dominate the game and went on to win, but Rathfriland fought very hard until the final whistle.

The third game was against a very strong Damolly side. Rathfriland took the lead after great play by Ross Chambers and Mathew Cromie in Rathfriland’s midfield to set Shane Haughey up for the first goal of the game.

Damolly fought back to level the game 1-1 but Rathfriland started to put the Damolly goal under pressure and were rewarded with their second goal of the game after a great run and shot from Aaron Baxter. This was a hard fought win from a determined Rathfriland side.

In the last game of the day Rathfriland were up against a third Damolly team. In the early stages of the game it was all Rathfriland, with Christopher McConville and Mathew Cromie pulling the string in the middle of the park. Rathfriland dominated throughout the game creating chance after chance. Shane Haughey scored five goals to give Rathfriland a comfortable win.

The U8’s are having a great run of results and putting in some great performances against some very strong teams in this development programme. The boys are continuing to develop their skills and knowledge of the game and you can see them improve each week, well done boys.
