Four in a row for Midweek Park

BALLYMENA Midweek travelled to Willowfield in their final match before the holiday break and they continued their good run of form with their fourth consecutive victory, by 75 shots to 63.

Rowly Woods, Tommy Crooks, Don McKee and Harold Smyth made a poor start against E Dowds on rink 1 and with only 3 ends played they found themselves 9 shots in arrears.

The remainder of the game was much closer but they could not repair the early damage eventually going down by 18 shots to 12.

It was a similar story on rink 2 where Eddie Leckey, Jackie Barr, Leslie Jackson and Billy Scullion took on W Cockcroft. The visitors could not score on the first 4 ends as the Willowfield rink opened up an 8 shot lead.

The Braid men then found their line and length and won 4 of the next 5 ends to reduce the deficit to only a single shot, but they could not maintain this run of form as the home rink went on to win by 19 shots to 12.

On rink 3 Joe Kyle, Dessie Shaw, Alan McCombe and John Greer were drawn against T Watson and this time it was the men from Ballymena who had the better of the opening exchanges to lead by 9 shots after 7 ends.

The remainder of the game was a tense affair as the home rink chipped away at the Ballymena lead but the visitors were able to hold on for a hard fought 17-13 victory.

Roy Kernohan, John Houston, George Stewart and Jim Cameron certainly found the green to their liking on rink 4 where they played the Willowfield rink skipped by M Cockcroft. After 7 ends the scores were close with the visitors leading by 11 shots to 8.

The remainder of the game however belonged to Cameron’s men. Five ends later the Ballymena advantage was 7 shots, but the opposition were blown away over the last 6 ends with the Braid men outscoring the home rink by 14 shots on their way to a brilliant 34-13 victory.

Ballymena Midweek Park now take a break for a couple of weeks and they are back in action on Wednesday 28th July when they travel to Knock.
