Four points in two games kick-starts Town Under 16’s season

Town Juniors Under-16s Lisburn League team took four points from two games in the past week to kick start their league form this season.

Last Monday night a last minute headed equaliser from Odhran McKibben from a fantastic Ryan Devlin cross salvaged a point for the Juniors in a game they should have won comfortably against Willowbank.

Wasted opportunities cost the locals two vital points so a win on Saturday against Greenisland was essential.

To their credit the Town didn’t disappoint. Mark Burke got the Juniors off to a great start heading home from a dangerous McAtamney cross.

McKibben then finished from close range, following good work from Houston in midfield. Greenisland managed to claw one back, somehow converting from an in swinging corner.

But McKibben smashed a third to the roof of the net following a clever ball from Burke in behind the defence.

McKibben then clinched his hat trick just before half time finishing a cross from full back Downey to effectively end the game as a contest.

Greenisland did give themselves a flicker of hope at the start of the second half, breaking down the left and finishing in off the post past Leckey.

But the Juniors settled down again and dealt another knockout blow when Irwin side footed home a free kick from the impressive Fitzsimmons on the right hand side.

Greenisland did manage to score a late consolation to make it 5-3 and McCann missed a late chance for the town to make it six after showing good strength to shake off the defender and narrowly shooting wide. The juniors will have to carry this form into next week when they play old rivals Hillsborough Youth
