Frustrating day all round for the Bannsiders as Hazley bags the win

Matt Hazley’s strike ten minutes from time was enough to seal the points for the visitors.

The hosts probably had the better chances on the day, but an inspired performance by Andy Coleman in the Dungannon goal left the Bannsiders exasperated at the end.

“A frustrating day is the best way I could explain it,” Kearney told Times Sport after the game.

“I think we probably had the better chances, Andy Coleman has made a couple of decent saves.

“It looked as though it was going to be one of those games to peter out at 0-0.

“But to be fair to Matt Hazley he has produced a great strike to win it.

“You don’t get the feeling that it’s not going to be your day, you’re just hoping that you can keep going and finally get one.

“The Portadown game last week was like that, we scored late on to win it.

“But I think the key thing today, and probably like the game last week, the first goal was always going to be vital.

“Obviously the timing is crucial too, last week we scored with ten minutes to go, and Dungannon did that today.

“We could all see that probably one goal was going to be enough to win the game.”

Kearney admitted his side’s performance was lacking but added he hoped for a better showing in this Saturday’s crucial clash against high flying Glenavon.

“Our performance was a bit stale, it was by no means our most energetic performance.

“I think both teams struggled with the conditions.

We created a number of good chances against Dungannon but our level wasn’t as high today.

“We maybe could have snatched the victory, but in the same stretch we have to do more against Glenavon.”
