Gallagher’s header earns the points for U11s

DROMORE U11s contine their recent good run with a battling away win.

The locals made a few changes to the line-up and welcomed Anthony Hughes to the starting line up in midfield.

Dromore made a whirlwind start and after some good play from Matty Brush, who passed a long ball through for Jake Corbett to race on to, saw the Amateurs open the scoring.

Jake Corbett did everything right and cooly hit his shot passed the on rushing Castle keeper only to find his shot hit the far post and stay out.

His new strike partner Lewis Sinclair initially thought Jake Corbett had scored as he was turning round to celebrate only to find himself having to react quicker than the Castle defence and race back to poke the ball in from close range to score his first goal for the U11s.

The Dromore defence were now called into action to play their part but some sluggish defending allowed Castle to score an equaliser on the stroke of half-time.

The coaches made a few tweaks to the line-up for the second half and the introduction of Aaron Hanna to midfield and Matty Brush to defence steadied the ship. Everytime the Castle attackers got past the Dromore defence they found goalie Oliver McLuckie in inspired form who was acting like a sweeper,, coming out of his box to clear the ball and deny Castle any shooting opportunities.

As in previous weeks the sheer determination from all the kids, saw them get their reward late in the second half when Birthday boy Ryan Gallagher scored what turned out to be the winner for Dromore. After a long clearance from Oliver McLuckie bounced over the Castle players, it was played on by the Dromore midfield.

With the ball bouncing it was a race between Ryan Gallagher and the Castle goalie to get the ball, The young midfielder wasnt to be stopped and he rose first to head the ball over the rushing goalie and in to the net.

Good fortune seems to be with the young Dromore side at the moment as in the closing seconds of the match Castle Juniors had a great chance to equalise only for the ball to bobble and miss the open Dromore goal much to the relief of all the parents and Coaches watching.

Next week Dromore U11s face another hard league fixture away to North Belfast with a 10am kick-off at the Grove Playing Fields.

Dromore started the game very well with the team playing much improved football from recent games and the Dromore midfield were on top with the early exchanges .

They were pressing for the first goal when Ballymena hit on the break too score the first goal of the game, Dromore tried to pull one back before half time but couldnt get past the visitors back line.

The second half started with the home side on top then Matty Crossey long ball sent Josh Best clear and the forward scored his third of the season.

Dromore were then boosted by this and then Aaron Pedan burst forward and was fouled in the box with the ref pointing to the spot - Jack Siviter placed the ball and slotted it home.

The joy was short lived when Ballymena scored to level the game, the game finished 2-2 and the U10’s are now unbeaten in 3 league games.
