Gatson and McDowell resign as Ballymoney slump to defeat

Gaston and his assistant Ronnie McDowell took the team for the final time, as Ballymoney slumped to eleventh position in the league.

With only one win in seven games, Gaston blamed “a lack of support from some players” for his decision.

He told Times Sport that he had cut all ties with the Club, and said he was pondering over his future in football.

“I wasn’t getting the support from certain players, some players had left the club and to be honest we were down to the bare bones.

“As a footballer myself, I always respected the players I played with and the manager - but this wasn’t happening, “ admitted Gaston.

“Management is a hard game, and to be honest I don’t know what my future holds now in football.”

It was a bad day all round for the Club as Knockbreda hit United for six.

Making their intentions clear from the start, the home side put Ballymoney under intense pressure. Moore was on duty as early as the tenth minute when he brought off a great save from Currie.

Finlay nearly opened the scoring on 15 minutes however a timely tackle by Wilkinson thwarted the striker.

After a period of intense pressure Young squared the ball back for Williamson to slot the ball past Moore for Knockbreda’s opening goal.

Ballymoney settled into the game and came close when after good play Craig’s effort was tipped over the bar.

Magee whipped in a corner and in an attempt to clear Connor hit the ball into his own net for the equaliser. With half time approaching slack marking by Ballymoney allowed Finlay to head a long throw back across goal for Young to head in Knocbreda’s second goal

With the second half only three minutes old Wright put Young through to beat Moore and extend the home lead to 3-1.

Young added a fourth before Hislop made it 5-1.

It was all about keeping the score down as Ballymoney defended.

Ballymoney had a good effort through Magee, but it was Knockbreda who had the final action of the game. Currie heaped more misery on Ballymoney when he netted the sixth.
