Gibson says he is happy to remain at Goodison Park

EVERTON’S Darron Gibson doesn’t believe he’ll be re-joining his former manager David Moyes at Manchester United.
Everton midfielder Darron Gibson returned to his native Derry to launch the Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup 2013. Included with Darron on the City's Historic Walls are local Derry and District Youth players Adam Carr, Ciaran McLaughlin, David Arthur and Caoimhin O'Neill who will emulate the Premiership star by competing in this year's competition.

The talented midfielder, who was guest of honour at the Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup launch last week, moved to Goodison Park last year and has settled in well with the Toffee men.

Gibson did concede that Moyes may return to his old club to possible sign a few players, with both Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini rumoured to be on the Scottish man’s wanted list.

“I don’t think I’ll be going back, but we’ll see what happens,” stated Gibson.

“He might take a few players with him but to be honest with you I don’t have a clue who he’ll take.

“I thought the season went well, obviously I was injury at the early part of the season, but the games I did play in I played well enough and I was happy with that.”

The 25-year-old conceded he was a bit shocked when Moyes was given the United job following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

“Their was obviously a bit of speculation towards the end of the season when he wasn’t sure if he was going to sign a new contract, so I think there was a bit of doubt their, obviously it was a surprise him getting the Man United job but fair play to him.

“I think he deserves it, he’s worked hard, he’s worked wonders with the Everton team and the budget he has had, so hopefully he can do the same at United.

“I haven’t seen him use the hair dryer treatment, but I think he has some of the same attributes as Fergie, but I think he’s going to go in and try to do it his way, rather than do it the same way as Fergie but we’ll see what happens.”

Gibson feels that fellow Maiden City man Shane Duffy may benefit with Moyes’ departure to Old Trafford.

“Shane is developing well and I think he’s been unlucky this season. He came in at the end of last year and played five games and got ‘man of the match’ in three of those.

“He’s hardly played for the first team since and I think he’s been very unlucky. Hopefully it’s a new slate for him now with a new manager coming in and hopefully he can push on and be in the team permanently.”

The Hazelbank man, who marries his long term girlfriend Danielle Carter this summer, admitted he enjoyed his Foyle Cup experience.

“I have played in the Foyle Cup a few times and I enjoyed it. I think the competition was basically were I got my opportunity to be seen by clubs abroad, so it’s a good tournament.”
