Gibson signs for Carrick

Former Glentoran and Ballymena United striker Richard Gibson has signed a one-year deal with Carrick Rangers.

Gibson becomes Michael Hughes’ sixth summer signing, but one player who looks set to leave Taylor’s Avenue is Jonny Addis. He is reported to have signalled his intention to quit the Championship 1 club to link up with Eddie Patterson’s Glens.

“We are delighted to have been able to add Richard to our squad for the forthcoming season and is an extremely positive addition to the signings we have already made this summer,” club director Peter Clarke told the Gers’ website. “As a player, he provides unquestionable quality and adds to our squad which we aim to provide both youth and experience but also top local talent.”

On Addis, unquestionably one of the best players to come through the Carrick ranks in recent years, Clarke added: “I think this demonstrates that we have a great youth development programme. A lot of credit must be given to the many coaches who work with the youth teams and dedicate a lot of their free time to help develop the players.”
