Gibson wins goal of the year award

DERRY man Darron Gibson picked up the Three International Goal of the Year accolade as the Republic of Ireland’s top international football stars were honoured at the 22nd Three FAI International Football Awards which took place at RTÉ studios, Dublin, on Sunday.

The Everton midfielder’s wonder strike goal against Wales in the Carling Nations Cup was voted the best goal of 2011.

While former Derry City duo James McClean and Eamon Zayed lost out to ex-Shamrock Rovers defender Pat Sullivan for the Airtricity League Player of the Year.
