Gimme Five: Glebe left red faced by rampant Portstewart

With forwards Stewart and Donnell back to full fitness, it was a strong Portstewart side who lined out for the derby encounter.

Nigel Turner opened the scoring after just ten minutes, the former Glebe man beat the off side trap to slot past Kane. Morrison nicked an equaliser for the Ballymoney men, but it was the home side who dominated play, efforts from Stewart, Turner and Doherty were saved by Glebe’s Kane.

After the re-start, the home side took control, slotting home three goals in the space of 15 minutes to leave the score 4-1. John Neill, Robert Donnell and Johnny Stewart hit home, Stewart’s goal, thumped in from outside the box, was worthy of an action reply. Despite the score-line, Peter Cairns’ side continued to battle. McDowell, Marks and Dobbin had efforts, but they didn’t test Madison. A good move by Forgrave and Donnell put Turner in on goal and he made no mistake to grab his brace and his side’s fifth of the tie. At the other end Kennoway was given a second yellow for handing in the box, and the visitors were reduced to ten men eight minutes from time. Portstewart continued to dominate as the tie ended, in what proved to be a good advertisement for local football.
