Girls’ football development centre

Larne Ladies FC have recently established a ‘girls only’ football development centre which takes place each Monday evening at The Cliff from 6pm for all girls aged five and 16.

Female football is among the fastest growing sports in Northern Ireland with nearly 50 ladies teams now competing in the NIWFA leagues and more and more girls playing football in schools, mini leagues and youth clubs.

The sessions are run by The Cliff’s Sport Development Officer Gary Haveron and is linked to the senior Larne Ladies side who regularly help with the coaching.

Fully affiliated with the Irish Football Association, the main aim is to increase the number of girls in the local area taking part in football, and to provide a safe environment where the girls can have fun, keep fit and improve their football skills.

Once the centre gets up and running, Haveron hopes to enter the girls into various junior girls’ leagues and tournaments, and, from time to time, will be inviting different female international players and managers down to coach the girls.
