Girls football success

LURGAN Town started their Girls Football Academy in February this year in conjunction with the IFA First Kicks programme.

First Kicks cater for girls aged 6 to 11 and are based on fundamental movement skills and basic football techniques. The IFA currently deliver over 20 programmes in partnership with local councils, Active Communities coaches, DENI Primary School coaches and local clubs.

With regular numbers of 15-20 girls taking part each week the sessions have grown and the girls took part in summer football and most recently in the annual Futsal Tournament Final at the Shankill Leisure centre, organised jointly by Belfast City Council and the Irish FA.

If any girls aged from 6-14 are interested in participating in football they should contact Alex Clifford on 07871001037 and training is on Friday nights from 6 to 7 at Lurgan Town Arena.
