Glass Cup update

THE annual Glass Cup competition – where the winners of the District League section meet their counterparts from the Churches League - continues to make steady progress.

In the Churches section, Second Broughshane entertained Cullybackey Methodist A

The home rink skipped by Hugh Henry got off to a winning start defeating John Kirk 10-9.

On the other mat the result was reversed as Timothy Rock guided his rink to a two shot defeat of James Turtle 5–7.

In the second half the visitors consolidated their lead when Chris Ramsey’s four got the better of Colin Turtle 8–10.

On the other mat the home rink skipped by Maurice Montgomery were always in control against Nigel Peacock and their 10–3 win ensured the home side have another home game with the winner of the First Ahoghill v Cuningham A game.

In the District Section, meanwhile, Portglenone Community travelled to Enkalon

In the first half the home side got off to the better start as Chris Murray got the better of Jim Gaul’s rink by 10-6.

On the other mat Brian Johnston’s four edged past Kevin O’Kane by 9-7.

The second half was a complete reversal as the home four skipped by Robin Kennedy lost out in a low scoring game with Joe McErlean by 4–8

On the other mat Brian Mackle’s four also went under to Tom McCart’s visiting four by 9–12 to give the visitors a single shot win and a home tie with Ballymena Social Club, who beat First Ballymena.

'First' found themselves under pressure from the outset as the home four skipped by Jean Mullan lost out to Uel Fleming’s four by 6–16.

On the other mat the home four skipped by Lyle McQuitty gave the home side a glimmer of hope when they edged past the visiting four skipped by Mal Norton 12–11.

As the second half unfolded the glimmer was snuffed out as Nigel Robinson’s four got the better of Roberta Hayes 7–10.

Bryan Magrath’s four piled on the pressure as they overran the home four skipped by Roland Woods 3–13.

Michelin hosted West Church and the visiting four skipped by Joe Harris were first on the scoreboard, however the home rink skipped by Adi Davison were quickly into their stride and by the halfway stage led by 8–2. Over the next few ends they were completely in charge and eventually ran out easy winners 19–3.

On the other mat the home four skipped by Wes Caldwell were not having things their own way against Matt McPeake’s rink and by the half way stage were trailing 3–5.On the run in some very good conversion shots by the church back end of Tom Wilson and Matt ensured they claimed the spoils by 5–9.

In the second half the home rink skipped by Tom Lithco were not having things their own way in their tussle with the Church four skipped by Jim Rainey and although they only won four of the regulation ten ends they managed to scrape through 9–7.

It was Chris Wilson who ensured the bragging rights in the Wilson household as he led his home rink to a14–3 win over the Church rink skipped by father Graham and sister Megan supporting at third. Michelin now travel to Randalstown to meet the winner of the Maine v Old Bleach game.
