Sport and Leisure Swifts were the visitors to the Riada Stadium on Saturday as they and Glebe sought the three points which would move either side further clear of the drop zone and, in a game played under incessant rain, it was the hosts who maintained their recent upsurge in form with a 4-0 victory.

The recalled David McVicker was to the fore in early Glebe attacks and from his fine ball Henry found himself one on one with Swifts keeper Nugent. However it was Nugent who came out on top with the first of a series of fine stops and Jackie Morrison failed to convert the rebound. McVicker then found Elder who was again foiled by Nugent. At this stage Glebe were in the ascendancy and only a fine covering challenge by Moore averted further danger with Henry ready to pounce.

The pressure finally told after 23 minutes when Kennoway, once more demonstrating his aerial prowess, powered home a header from Morrison’s fine cross.

The visitors hardly threatened throughout the first period and in the 39th minute McVicker got the goal his performance deserved with a superb, curling effort from fully 25 yards to send his side in at the interval 2 up.

Sport and Leisure were transformed at the start of the second half and dominated the early stages as they sought to get back in the game.

Conor McQuillan was unlucky when his 53rd minute free-kick rebounded off the upright and deflected behind off Kane.

From the resultant corner Corr’s effort was blocked and Carlin drove wide from the rebound. This failure to capitalise cost the visitors dearly 2 minutes later when Kennoway burst forward and set up Elder whose lob beat Nugent to make it 3-nil.

Despite this setback the Swifts continued to press with Corr and Jenkins combining well although Cunningham and sub McGlinchey were unable to take advantage and it was left to Gareth Henry to have the final say.

Ryan Marks seized on an attempted clearance and his cleverly disguised pass found Henry lurking inside the box. Despite seeing his initial effort saved by Nugent, the forward seized on the rebound to slot home to leave the final score 4-nil to the hosts
