A capacity crowd at Mourneview Park helped generate £7,000 last Thursday towards the former Glenavon striker’s treatment fund.

The 33-year-old attended the game with his wife, Terri-Louise, as select sides representing the host club and Derry City lined out for a friendly fixture of special significance.

The turnstiles yielded £3,200, with a £500 donation from Glenavon’s Board of Directors alongside sums raised from additional events on the night.

The game finished in a 6-3 win for Glenavon and Teer highlighted his pride in the backing provided for the former striker.

“It is a testament to the Irish League supporters and, in particular, our own fanbase,” said the club chairman. “It was an emotional night but one which showed exactly what we mean by the football family.

“The support was superb for such a wonderful cause.

“Mark is the all-time leading goalscorer in Derry City’s history and had a wonderful scoring record during his period here at Glenavon.

Glenavon’s future in the Setanta Sports Cup remains under a shadow - but Teer has confirmed interest is still strong.

“We are still anxious to take part, but only under proper and fair conditions regarding arrangements,” said Teer. “The IFA know our position.”
