Glenavon trip to Linfield in doubt

Glenavon’s game with Linfield could be switched from Windsor Park if the results of a structural survey deem the ground remain closed.

On Tuesday the West Stand – also known as the Kop – was sealed off over fears of possible subsidence after cracks were discovered in the structure.

The stadium, which is undergoing redevelopment, hosted Sunday’s Euro 2016 qualifier between Northern Ireland and Finland.

However, Wednesday’s Linfield Swifts v Glenavon Reserves match was postponed, with concerns also over Saturday’s clash between the Blues and Crusaders and the Irish Cup final between Glentoran and Portadown on May 2.

An IFA statement on Tuesday said: “The Irish FA became aware on Tuesday morning of some damage having been caused overnight to the West Stand.

“We are currently awaiting a report from the structural engineers.”

Glenavon are due to visit Windsor Park on April 11, if the matter is not cleared up by then an alternative venue would have to be sought.
